When I was 20s, having a clear skin was a hard thing to achieve as hard as when I was a teenager. At that time, I was dealing with a skin problem what so called adult acne that was very hard for me to deal with. That was very annoying as I couldn’t show my face’s best look. I realized that this wouldn’t be the only skin problem as my age turns older and older. To solve that, I visited a dermatologist to identify the best way to get rid of this kind of acne. From her, I know many things about adult acne now and I want to share it with you here.
First of all, she suggested me to identify the causes of this acne. Yup, I never thought that there were various causes for this skin problem.
Possible Causes of Adult Acne
Here are some of them that I think become the cause of my acne and solution to deal with. You can use it as your reference if you have the same problem with me and the same condition as mine.
This was a potential cause responsible for my acne at my 20s. I was a full-time work woman with many works to do every day that sometimes drove me to end up with stress.
Unfortunately, the body with its complex hormones has its own way to deal with stress and then there was acne without I realized it. After knowing this fact, I tried to obey my dermatologist’s advice to be more relaxed in doing all of my works to avoid the heavier stress that could cause my acne becomes worse. I also needed to keep up my good mood in order to avoid stress easier.
If you are a full-time work as well, it will be better to consider your good mood as a priority during your work hours so that you will not get stressed easily. Once you are stressed, your acne might get worse.
Air pollution is another cause for acne that we can’t avoid. Every day we are exposed to this kind of pollution if you work in a big city with pollution. Once, after I got home, I wiped my face with a toner pad and I was surprised with what I saw in the pad. For this, we need to clean our face after we got home from work to keep it clean and reduce the chance of getting more acne. This become a very effective treatment to fight and prevent acne.
So, you need to be more aware of the environment you live in. When there is pollution, your chance of getting adult acne is bigger. You have to pay attention to the cleanliness of your face to avoid any acne problem.
Too much cleansing
Although cleaning and washing face to avoid acne is important, this will make it worse when it is done too frequent and intense. The dermatologist that I visited recommended me not to clean and wash my face too much since this would make my skin dry. She told that when skin dries it produces more oil. For the best, I needed to clean and wash my face at least twice a day. Just remember this thing, too much cleansing is bad for your face, moreover for you with many acne on it.
Choosing skincare and facial products are also a very important concern when dealing with adult acne. Wrong products will only make it worse and it will be more difficult to solve in the future. For this, it is important to determine the kind of your skin before deciding to use certain products. Since my face skin type is oily, the best products for me would be those which has “oil-free” or “water-based” label.
Therefore, it will be best for you to visit your dermatologist and find out the type of your skin before choosing your skincare products. You need to be sure about this in order to find the best products for you.
Instead of paying attention to causes and solution that I have mentioned above, there are many other optional solutions to prevent and even solve adult acne. The very first solution that I could try was reducing my consumption of sugar. My dermatologist states that sugar could raise the insulin level in the body which can trigger the production of oil-hormones that responsible for the acne. Low-glycemic foods would be a very good option during the fight against acne. These foods are also good for the body.
Additionally, there are some specific foods that can cause acne. Some of them are nuts, fried foods, caffeine, chocolate, pizza, etc. People’s reaction after consuming these foods differ one another. This means that you should pay attention to the effects after you consume these foods. Some people might get no effects, but some might get acne after consumption. Let’s see an example. If you find any breakouts on your face after eating pizza, it would be better to avoid this food. So, it depends on your body reaction to the food.
Another optional solution would be looking for products that contain certain ingredients which are very useful to fight acne. Some ingredients that you can look for are Salicylic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, Sulfur, Glycolic Acid and Retinol. You will find that there are plenty of products that contain those ingredients that you can find out there. All you have to do is finding the right one so that you can get the best result. Just buy the products from a reliable company with the proven result for solving acne problems.
In conclusion, there are many factors that can cause adult acne. This is what you need to identify so that you could find the best treatment for you. Sometimes this is hard to deal with. Therefore, you need to be aware of your skin cleanliness, your lifestyle, and your environment. I hope this will help each of you who have the same problem that I had.
