Being a woman is fun. We can wear pretty dresses and different shapes and styles of shoes. We can get a weird haircut and color it all we like. We can also paint our nails and wear dramatic makeup to match our mood and social circumstances. Being a woman offers us the limitless creativity to appear whatever we want.
However, it is annoying when our makeup doesn’t last. It can even be embarrassing as well. Depending on how complicated it is, we can spend hours before going out every day to put the makeup on. However, outdoor activities and air conditioner can wear it off so we have to do reapply some makeup every now and then. Of course, there are some products that last longer than others. However, even if we only wear long-lasting and waterproof skin products, various activities can make us lose the touch of the makeup.
So what should we do to make our makeup last longer?
Exfoliate dead skin cells
The first thing we must do is preparing our skin. Our makeup will last if our skin is in its prime condition. It means it has to be thoroughly cleaned. Peeling or scrubbing should be done at least three times a week. These activities will help us getting rid of the dead cells in our skin.
Our makeup, especially the foundation, will attach perfectly to the healthy and clean skin. If we don’t clean and exfoliate our skin regularly, our skin will be dry and rough. Besides preventing the makeup to attach smoothly to our skin, it will also make it last shorter.
Avoid overusing moisturizer
Some of us probably love the texture of moisturizing products so much because it keeps our skin cool and moist. However, it is important to not use too much moisturizer in our daily routine. Overusing moisturizer can prevent makeup products to have a firm grip on our skin. As a result, our makeup won’t last.
The area around the nose should be free from moisturizing products. If we apply moisturizer in the area, it will become very oily as time passes by.
Wait at least 15 minutes after applying moisturizing cream before we begin putting our makeup on. It will give the skin time to absorb the moisturizer. If we can see or feel the moisturizer that hasn’t been absorbed by our skin after 15 minutes, pat the area gently with a soft tissue. The same technique also applies to lip balm on our lips.
Remember that less is more
Not so fun fact: the thicker our makeup is, the easier it is to clump or fade. This especially applies to the foundation.
Therefore, we have to make sure that we don’t apply excessive foundation onto our face. My trick is to never use fingers to apply it. I have a special brush for my foundation. The brush helps me create a thinner layer so my makeup will last longer. After putting the foundation on with a brush, I pat my face with a beauty sponge slowly. The sponge will help us to make the foundation evenly spread on our skin and lift the excessive foundation from it. The result will display a more natural look.
Wear concealer
The less is more principle when applying foundation sometimes makes it difficult to give us a flawless look. Some of us probably have skin problems such as freckles, dark spots or pimples. Instead of applying more foundation to cover the imperfect area of our skin, it is recommended to apply some concealer instead. We can use our fingers to apply it to the necessary area.
Combine creamy and powdery products
To make our cheeks appear blushing all day long, we need two types of blush on, the one with powdery texture and the one with creamy texture. We should begin with a creamy blush on. Then, we can emphasize the color and make it last longer with the one with powdery texture. The cream will keep our bush own powder attached.
Wear waterproof eyeliner and mascara
Besides lipsticks, eyeliner and mascara are probably two most important things that can significantly alter our appearances. They can make our eyes seem more alive, fiercer, sexier, deeper, and other impressions we want to make. Because of this, it is important that our eye makeup lasts the whole day.
We should always buy waterproof eyeliner and mascara. The formula for this type of eyeliner and mascara is usually safe. We don’t have to worry it will put some damage to our eyes. We can even wear it on the inner part of our eyelashes line safely.
I usually apply some eyeshadow before eyeliner so that it will be easier for me to draw the lines. Mascara comes right after the eyeliner. These steps also give the most long-lasting eye makeup result.
Choose some matte lipsticks
My favorite lipstick texture is matte lipstick, not glossy, not sheer, not creamy. It is perfect for that inviting pouty pose. It delivers some velvety finish that will make other people look at our lips longer, but it retains the natural look. The resulting color is deep, opaque, and long-lasting. This is definitely the best kind of lipstick to wear for a day at work or a long day out.
Before putting on the lipstick, I will usually use a lip liner. However, contrary to other people who use lip liners to draw a line around the lips, I also fill the inner area of the lips with lip liner coloring. The next step is applying my favorite lipstick with my finger. This also helps us to make our lipstick color last longer.
Wear some transparent face powder
Apply some transparent face powder on the face area after the foundation. The powder will lock the applied foundation so that it won’t fade soon.
I like loose powder better than compact powder. Compact powder makes the whole makeup appears heavy. It can even crack around the mouth and eyes area because the organs move too much. Therefore, it is better to apply some loose powder using a brush.
